I am a freelance editor, fact-checker, proofreader, and translator (German/English). I have provided freelance editorial services to numerous publisher clients and authors since 1985 and have worked on materials on a wide variety of subjects: nonfiction, fiction, reference books, textbooks, journals, magazines.

I have taught indexing at West Publishing Company, St. Paul, MN, and through the USDA’s Graduate Correspondence Program. In addition, I have taught German from the elementary school level up to the college level, as well as privately. I have even taught German in German at the Studienkolleg für ausländische Studierende der Universität Hamburg (study college for foreign students at the University of Hamburg, Germany). I have also taught ESL and knitting.

I’ve written and published articles on starting a home-based business, what indexers do, a weekly column (often humorous) for a small-town local newspaper, book reviews, and critiques. I’ve spoken about indexing at the Florida Small Publishers Association and at Indiana University’s School for Library and Information Science. I have worked as a law clerk for Indiana University’s Inmate Legal Assistance Clinic; the City of Bloomington, IN; and the US Army JAG Corps in Bremerhaven, Germany. I have lived abroad, primarily in Germany and Austria, for long periods of time and have studied and worked in both places. I have also lived in the Netherlands, the UK, and Panama and have traveled widely in Europe.

Before I became a freelancer, I worked as an in-house legal editor for West Publishing Company in St. Paul, MN. Previously, I worked as an in-house editor for Indiana University’s Independent Study Division in Bloomington, IN.

I hold a JD, an MS in Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, an MA in German Literature and Linguistics, and a BA in English and German. I am fluent in German and have excellent reading knowledge of Dutch. I also have some knowledge of Spanish, French, and Russian.
